Changing Lives Through Mobility: The Rotary Wheelchair Project
In this compelling presentation, David Behring will share the mission, history, and global reach of the Rotary Wheelchair Project. He will highlight how Rotary clubs—large and small—play a vital role in delivering mobility to people who would otherwise be confined to their homes or forced to crawl. David will also discuss:
- The life-changing impact of a single wheelchair
- How Rotary partnerships make global distribution possible
- Stories from the field that illustrate the power of service
- Opportunities for the Castro Valley Rotary Club to participate in future wheelchair missions
Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how Rotary’s commitment to service can restore dignity, freedom, and opportunity to people around the world.
David Behring has dedicated more than two decades to transforming lives through mobility. As President of the Wheelchair Foundation, he has helped lead one of Rotary’s most impactful global humanitarian partnerships—providing hope, dignity, and independence to people who lack access to basic mobility. Under his leadership, the Foundation has delivered more than one million wheelchairs to individuals in over 150 countries, working closely with Rotary clubs around the world to reach remote communities and those most in need.
David is known for his hands-on approach: traveling personally to distribution sites, collaborating with local Rotary clubs, and sharing powerful stories of how a single wheelchair can uplift not only an individual, but an entire family. His work reflects Rotary’s core values of service, compassion, and sustainable impact.
Beyond his humanitarian efforts, David is an engaging storyteller who brings to life the real-world effects of Rotary’s global service. His presentations inspire Rotarians to see how collective action can change the world—one wheelchair at a time.
