Adolescent Sleep Health:  What Schools, Parents, Teachers, and Students Can Do
Rafael Pelayo, M.D. - Stanford University
The Club was treated to a truly outstanding presentation on a critical public health issue, Adolescent Sleep Health, by Raul Pelayo, MD at Stanford University.  Dr. Pelayo has been actively involved in sleep research for many years, especially research on the impact of sleep or rather the lack of sleep on students.  His research was critical in the passage of SB 328 that establishes later starting times for schools across California.  Start by watching this short video on Sleep and the Immune System and then click on the link below for more information about this public health issue.
Member Spotlight:  Monica Lee
As part of the Club's ongoing program to spotlight new members, Monica Lee shared her background and passions (i.e., family, traveling, cooking and knitting).  Monica is an attorney and Castro Valley resident who has served on the CVUSD School Board.   Watch her outstanding presentation here and view her slides here.
Rotarian of the Month:  Ceta Dochterman
At the December 1st lunch meeting, President Gary Howard honored Ceta Dochterman as the Rotarian of the Month for December.  As Ceta noted, “I didn’t join Rotary to say ‘no’ to helping."  That statement clearly defines who Ceta is and what she does.  Service is truly in Ceta’s DNA. Her brother, Cliff Dochterman served as President of Rotary International in      1992-1993.
