Exoskelton Demonstration
Sutter Health's Eden Medical Center
For the past year, the Rotary Club of Castro Valley has partnered with
Eden Medical Center to raise funds to purchase a Ekso GT Robotics Exoskeleton that assists stroke patients to learn to walk again. The exoskelton is now in use.
After introductions and overviews by Eden Medical Center CEO
Pat Ryan and Adminstrative Director, Neuoscience & Onology Services Glen Jett, he program was turned over to Susanna Hsu, Outpatient Rehab Manager and physical therapy team to demonstrate the exoskelton in acutal use with a patient recovering from a stroke and learning to walk again.

"powerful, amazing, awe-inspring, and it brought me to tears." There is no way words can capture the impact of the demonstration so click here to watch it.
Background
Stroke is the number one cause of disability in the nation and regaining mobility is one of the biggest challenges during stroke rehabilitation. Over 60% of acute stroke survivors are unable to walk or experience difficulty with walking. Physical therapy guided by trained specialists can help patients to regain the strength, balance, and endurance they need to walk following a stroke.
The Ekso GT Robotics Exoskeleton provides advanced rehabilitation technology to achieve optimal outcomes for stroke patients. This wearable robotic technology has revolutionized stroke care by providing comprehensive gait therapy beyond what a physical therapist can do with conventional tools.
In 2019, the Rotary Club of Castro Valley partnered with Eden Medical Center to raise funds to help purchase a Ekso GT Robotics Exoskeleton. The Club matched up to $10,000 and with support from Sutter Health and other generous community donors, Eden Medical Center was able to purchase the Exoskelton and begin helping patients recover.
