Rotary Supports Eden Medical Center Staff
The Rotary Club of Castro Valley has been involved in numerous activities to support the COVID -19 health care workers at Eden Medical Center (e.g., first responders parade, Feed Eden) as well as supporting local restaurants consistent with Rotary Service Above Self belief.

 

 
SBA & the CARES Act
Marlow Schindler, Small Business Administration
 
Marlow Schindler serves as the Assistant District Director for Lender Relations at the US Small Business Administration (SBA), San Francisco District Office.  She is a representative of the District Office in matters relating to Lenders and SBA loan programs.  Before SBA, Marlow volunteered with the Peace Corps as a Small Enterprise Development Advisor to a community run bank in West Africa.  She also has experience working in marketing and communications for Schwab Charitable Fund.
 
Her presentation focused on the provisions in the CARES Act that apply to loans by the SBA.  Please note:  Since information regarding the loan provisions of the CARES Act and SBA procedures is being updated almost daily, the information in this presentation is subject to change.  Please check SBA.gov/coronavirus for the most updated information.  Other important sources for the most updated information include sba.gov/ppp and treasury.gov/cares.

  • Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) (more information here)
  • Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) (more information here)
In the presentation, Marlow explained the purpose of each program and the current regulations; however, as Marlow noted throughout the presentation, the information and regulations are constantly being updated so it is critical for small business owner to check the website regularly. 
 
Marlow shared additional resources where small business owner can obtain support.  The support centers included

  • Women's Business Center
  • SCORE Chapters
  • State and local jurisdictions

(15'20") Brian has been a 30-year resident of Castro Valley.
  • President Todd introduced Chris Carr from LaSalle Mortgage Services and parent of students at Canyon Middle School and Castro Valley High School who describe a project to recognize graduates at all Castro Valley schools with banners along Castro Valley Blvd. starting next week.  To hear about the project and see the banners, go to 18'37" on the video.  Please contact Chris if you would like to support this effort.

  • Carol Wikle reported that Rotary International (RI) has approved the check to Assist International (AI) for the Breathing for Life (BFL) Project in Nejo, Ethiopia and that electrical work and training should occur in June. (24'02")

Ellen Clark is the Community Development Director for the City of Pleasanton.  She will be sharing economic development plans for the City of Pleasanton.  Clark manages a department budget of $10.6 million and oversee the city’s planning, traffic engineering, building and safety services including inspections, code enforcement and permit center business.
