AVID - Preparing students for College Eligibility and Success

Laura O’Brien and Candace Tigerman, AVID teachers at CVUSD, will describe the AVID program.  Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an in-school academic support program for grades 7-12. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for college eligibility and success.  Ms O’Brien teaches biotechnology at Castro Valley High School. She has a BS in biology and chemistry with a minor in sociology from Santa Clara University. Ms Tigerman teaches Spanish at Castro Valley High School. Before coming to Castro Valley, she was a teacher in San Jose and served as faculty advisor for activities, such as the Class of 2012 and the GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) club. She has a BA in language studies from UC Santa Cruz and an MA in secondary education and teaching from Stanford.
