The featured speaker will be Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, who will present an update from Washington, D.C., followed by a question-and-answer session and a focused discussion with local constituents.

This unique gathering brings together business leaders, community members, and civic stakeholders for direct engagement with their representative in Congress.

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier currently represents California’s congressional district that includes Castro Valley and much of Contra Costa County, along with portions of Alameda County. First elected to Congress in 2014, DeSaulnier has built a reputation as a thoughtful and accessible leader with a strong focus on transportation, healthcare, environmental protection, and government accountability.

Prior to his service in Congress, DeSaulnier held positions in the California State Senate, California State Assembly, and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, bringing decades of public service experience to his role. His district includes a diverse mix of suburban and urban communities, with Castro Valley playing an important role in the East Bay region he represents.

The program will offer multiple opportunities for interaction and dialogue:

  • 12:00 PM – Lunch and opening remarks
  • 12:15 PM – Congressman DeSaulnier’s presentation: Report from Congress
  • 1:00 PM – Audience Q&A session
  • 1:30 PM – Five-minute break
  • 1:35 PM – Focus group discussion with Castro Valley constituents

The focus group session will provide Castro Valley attendees with an opportunity to share perspectives, concerns, and priorities directly with the Congressman in a smaller-group setting.

The Castro Valley Rotary Club proudly announces the return of the 18th Annual Castro Valley Classic Car Show, taking place on Saturday, June 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Castro Valley along Castro Valley Boulevard between Redwood Road and San Miguel Avenue.

This beloved community tradition will showcase over 400 classic, custom, and specialty vehicles, attracting thousands of spectators from across the Bay Area. The event is free to the public, making it an ideal family-friendly outing filled with nostalgia, innovation, and community spirit.

To make attending easy and convenient, guests are encouraged to take BART, with a free shuttle service running from the Castro Valley BART station to the event. Free parking is also available on Norbridge Avenue.

New Features and Family-Friendly Attractions

This year’s event continues to expand with exciting additions, including:

Next Generation Car Show, presented by the Castro Valley High School Auto Shop, highlighting student-built and restored vehicles

Hot Wheels Race Track, sponsored by Golden Wire Electric, offering hands-on fun for younger attendees

Live entertainment, local vendors, food, and community booths throughout the day

“The Castro Valley Classic Car Show is where Rotary’s commitment to service meets the passion people have for cars and community,” said Misti Short, Castro Valley Rotary Club President. “It’s more than a car show—it’s a celebration of connection, craftsmanship, and giving back.”

Short added, “We are incredibly grateful to this year’s sponsors. Their support helps us turn this event into something truly meaningful—raising funds for the Castro Valley Rotary Endowment, which provides scholarships to Castro Valley high school students and supports our community partners.”

Reflecting on the event’s growth, Ken Carbone, one of the founders of the show, shared, “When we started the Castro Valley Classic Car Show 18 years ago, it was a small gathering of car enthusiasts. Today, it has grown into a signature community event that draws hundreds of cars and thousands of visitors—something the entire community can be proud of.”

The program will feature Club President Misti Short, who will present a comprehensive and inspiring review of her Rotary year.

During her tenure as President, Misti Short has guided the Castro Valley Rotary Club through a highly successful and dynamic year, marked by record-setting membership growth and expanded community engagement. Under her leadership, the club has welcomed new members at an unprecedented pace, strengthening its ability to serve the community and expand its impact.

One of the highlights of her term has been the revitalization of the club’s social media presence, significantly increasing visibility and engagement throughout Castro Valley and beyond. This effort earned the club Rotary District 5170’s Public Image Award, recognizing excellence in communications and outreach.

Throughout the past year, Castro Valley Rotary hosted nearly 100 weekly meetings, special events, and service activities, reflecting the club’s strong commitment to fellowship and service. These included:

  • Community service projects supporting local nonprofits and families in need
  • Fundraising initiatives such as the Castro Valley Classic Car Show
  • Grant programs benefiting community partners and local organizations
  • Scholarship support for Castro Valley High School students
  • Participation in community events and collaborative partnerships across the region

Annual Demotion Celebration for President Misti Short

The Rotary Club of Castro Valley will honor its outgoing President, Misti Short, at the club’s beloved annual “Demotion Celebration,” a longstanding Rotary tradition recognizing a year of extraordinary leadership and service.

The event will be held at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Grounds, 9725 Dublin Canyon Road, Castro Valley, CA 94552, with the social hour beginning at 5:00 pm and dinner at 6:00 pm. The cost to attend is $40 per person. Misti's family and District leaders are free!

The “demotion” of a Rotary president is a time-honored and lighthearted ceremony celebrated by Rotary clubs around the world. While playful in name, the event carries deep meaning—marking the transition of leadership while honoring the commitment, dedication, and service given by a club president over the course of their term.
