PRESIDENT JOHN’S CLUB THEME FOR THE YEAR: SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS!

President John Aufdermauer brought down the gavel at our new meeting location at the Masonic Hall in Castro
Valley, and asked Tommy Gee (Welcome Back, Tommy, Our Hawaiian Friend!) to lead us in the us in the
Pledge of Allegiance.
THOUGHT(s) FOR THE DAY – Bruce Johnson did NOT share the following from Arthur Ashe today as he
could not find it, but in recognition of the attack on our Great Country on 9/11/2001 and how our country
rebounded the following is being shared: “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the
urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.”
Bruce Johnson DID share the following today as the Thought for the Day (when he could not find the one
above) from Colin Powell, former Secretary of State (2001-2005) as well as National Security Advisor
(1987–1989), as Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command (1989) and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff (1989–1993): “A dream does not become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard
work.” (Bruce thought it was a pretty good description of a CV Rotarian)

SINGING WITH CETA IS REPLACED PERIODICALLY BY “And That’s The Way It Was” as she shared
some Rotary facts regarding mottos beginning with the first in 1911: “He profits most who serves best.” In
1989 the Council established “Service Above Self” as the principal motto. As Ceta says, “And That’s The Way
It Was!”
