President John Aufdermauer brought down the gavel at Don Jose’s in Castro Valley, and asked Dwight Perry to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

SINGING WITH CETA -On The Good Ship Lollipop (in memory of Shirley Temple Black) and Let me call you Sweetheart.... for Valentine’s Day!  We also sang Happy Birthday to Leslie Rothwell.

REMEMBERING MR. SAL TEDESCO - Dwight Perry announced that there will be a memorial for Sal Tedesco at his (and Sylvia’s) home on March 1, 2014 from 2-6 pm.

PANCAKE PUTT-PUTT - April 5 - Golfland - sponsors and players will be needed . . . Pancake putt putt: Bill Nott passed out tickets. Please sell tickets $15 each or $50 for four. The putt putt will be on April 5. Please sell hole sponsorships ($100 each or $200 for one on each course). Please also collect raffle prizes. Fliers and

CHILI COOK-OFF - May 9 - Rowell Ranch Rodeo Grounds - Prizes are $500, $200 and $100. We will need a new chair for next year since Kern will be President-Elect.

ROWELL RANCH RODEO PARADE - May 10 - Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade - Theme “Castro Valley Rocks!” Co-Chair TL Baily confirmed that we WILL have the Wells Fargo Stagecoach this year!

RECOGNITIONS -

PAYING IT FORWARD - Carol Wilke announced that the director of Shepard’s Gate, Steve McCree, had an accident with a fractured neck and was in need of an electric wheelchair. Bill Nott passed the bucket and we collected $205 from the club.  President John authorized $300 one time monthly request. A total donation of $505. Thank you, CV Rotary!

PROGRAM - Today was our Club’s Speech Meet with participants from Castro Valley High School and Redwood Christian High School.  Participants from Castro Valley High School were Arash Akbar, Sophomore, and Jessica Domingo, Junior, and from Redwood Christian High School were seniors Sarah Blumert, Christine
Lum, and Alexis-Marie Stoy.  The participants were asked to speak on the topic “Engage Rotary. Change Lives.”      

Prior to the competition, Chair Dawn Ortiz introduced the speech contest and the rules. The speeches must include the Rotary International Theme (Engage Rotary, Change Lives) and include the Four Way Test.

Jeff Moore introduced the volunteers: Judges - Kern Lewis, Heidi Hausauer, Jerome Blaha; Timer - Dan Willets; Tellers - Bonnie Best and another TBRL (to be recognized later) who will be recognized later

The final results were First Place: Christine Lum; Second Place Sarah Blumert; and Third Place Alexis-Marie Stoy.  First Place Christine Lum advances to the next level of competition on March 10, 2014 at the Hayward Rotary Club.

LOOKING FOR THE WHITE MARBLE - With $36 and 18 marbles, Bonnie Best reached into the sack and won . . . $5!
